Preparing Your Outfit

Shop for your perfect graduation dress and heels ahead of time, whether that’s online or with your friends and family in-person. It’s recommended to be absolutely sure of the dress you’ll be wearing at least one week before your photoshoot date, to avoid last-minute panic and hassle! The flats or heels that you choose should also prioritize comfort; even if you carry walking shoes with you, there is still a good amount of standing, adjusting, and walking between spot-to-spot that may cause pain or discomfort over time.

The best colors to choose from are standard neutrals, like a clean white, beige, and black. However, if there’s a color you would love to wear over the usual white, you may absolutely express your personal style. Lastly, pick out a pair of flats or sneakers that are comfortable to walk in, so that your photoshoot heels are kept pristine and your actual heels are kept from blisters or sores. (Please bring walking shoes!)

Makeup & Hair

Getting ready is always half the struggle; make sure to give yourself enough time to get ready in the morning so you’re ready to express your best self during the photoshoot!

Although touch-ups during the shoot are usually not necessary, you may bring a bag with a few essential makeup products, hairbrush, and small mirror if preferred. Friends and family that are accompanying you for support are always welcome to step in and fix your hair, etc., although I’ll be doing my best to communicate any adjustments necessary throughout the session!

For makeup, matte looks show up better on camera, since professional shots may emphasize how much shine reflects off your face. However, if you prefer a more glowy/dewy look, it would be best to only lightly powder the spots that you don’t want to be shining too bright on camera.

Accessories

Jewelry and nails are a great way to elevate your graduation look with a more personalized touch. It’s best to keep your jewelry clean and polished for possible detail shots, showing your rings/bracelets/nails along with your graduation cap. If you would like to do your nails in preparation for the photoshoot, please feel free to either match it to your outfit or take that opportunity to add some self expression to your overall look.

Health

Make sure to get a full night’s rest and stay hydrated, especially on the days before your shoot! If your shoot is in the late afternoon, make sure to eat a filling meal several hours beforehand, so that you aren’t worried about bloating during photos. If you get hungry before your photoshoot, please don’t starve yourself, and at least have a light snack! Overall, make sure to take care of your health, so you can show up as your best self and represent the joy and pride you deserve for your accomplishments during this time.
